I never cared much for the classics when it came to comics, but the coloring and origin story that unfolds in this series completely blew me away when I stumbled across this collection in a Rochester, NY comic book shop. It was the covers of the first storyline in the series—Shaman, that put me in a chokehold with the mask shattering to reveal the inner destruction/creation of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The emotional intensity and esoteric origin story meld perfectly with the toothsome, yellowed paper and Andrew Dice Clay movie ads.
Gotham City is Hell. We are all in Hell. And I am the King of Hell.
